Artwork Update

I was honestly hoping to have the physical proof of Top Tale by now, however it has been a struggle to get colors just right. Needless to say, there was a lot that I didn't know about color profiles, which explains why the initial prototype games were slightly off in terms of the colors that were printed compared to what we submitted digitally. Bottom line, I want to make sure the colors are perfect for the copies you receive!

Also, there was some doing getting the box design converted to the magnetic flap box. At least the box design is now complete and the colors look great!

In the next update, I play to share an unboxing video with the physical proof. As long as all looks good, we'll then go into production with 2,000 copies being printed. With the production run, the UV spot treatment will be applied to make the box really stand out on your shelf!

I'm still on track to be able to fulfill backer orders, as well as pre-orders, by May 2021 (end of May at the latest). For a first-time Kickstarter creator, very rarely do projects get fulfilled on time. That said, there is still a lot that can delay things, but I promise you that I will do my best!

BackerKit Surveys at 70% Complete

The BackerKit survey, to collect you address and allow you to purchase add-ons, is now at 70% complete. Many surveys that have not been completed are $1 backers, who may or may not wish to order a game. That's totally fine as I have backed quite a few campaigns for $1 to simply show my support for the creator (I think over 100 campaigns at this point...). For those that did want a copy of Top Tale, I absolutely need you to finish your survey to know where to ship the game.

If you lost the e-mail, or want to check on your survey, you can do so with the following link:

https://top-tale-og-vol1.backerkit.com/

Either way, I will reach out to the stragglers before the survey locks down to make sure I have all the information I need to fulfill orders.

Pre-Orders One Through January

Given the fact that I've already committed to ordering 2,000 units, I will have more than enough to fulfill backer orders, pre-orders, and have plenty left over to sell afterwards. With that in mind, I plan to keep the BackerKit survey and BackerKit pre-order site open through at least January, possibly longer. If you know someone that may want to pre-order a copy of Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 1, please direct them to the following link:

Happy New Year Indeed!

You may be sick of having e-mails from companies wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, but I for one am really looking forward to 2021! I have set the following goals for Yub Nub Games in 2021, and ask you all help keep me honest in meeting these goals (in priority order):

  • Fulfill Kickstarter orders on time for Summer enjoyment (should be prefect timing assuming pandemic restrictions lessen by that time)
  • Publish fully-functional mobile apps for both iOS and Android (I'm hoping to have this done by the time I fulfill backer orders)
  • Sell "Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 1" through brick and motor, as well as online retailers, and have a profitable year overall
  • Prepare (if not launch) the next Kickstarter campaign for both "Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 2" and "Top Tale: Tall Tale"

Thank You All!

BackerKit Survey! Pre-order Store Live! Final Artwork Almost Done!

Pledge Manager through BackerKit

It is very common for Kickstarter campaigns to use an online tool called a "pledge manager". The pledge manager software that I chose to use is called, BackerKit, and I just sent out a smoke test of the BackerKit survey. The smoke test just went out to 5% of the backers, which is seven of you. For those seven backers, you get to be the guinea pigs and test out the survey questions and interface, to make sure everyone else has a pleasant experience (thank you for that!). Assuming the smoke test goes well, the other 95% of you wonderful humans will receive the survey invite this weekend!

Note: You can also change your pledge tier if you want to, by clicking the "switch your pledge level" link, in case you wanted to upgrade and support the cause even more. ;)

Some of you might be asking, "What the keck does all this mean?" Well, Kickstarter collected your pledges (at least all but three of you), and that money (minus KS fees) will be sent to me soon to pay the manufacturer for your games. What Kickstarter didn't collect from you is stuff like shipping information, shipping fees (if applicable), sales tax (if applicable), and most importantly, where you want donated copies to go to and what name you want on your lifetime subscription certificates (for those where that  applies). Collecting this information is critical for you to get your games. BackerKit also allows you to add to your order, in case you want to buy additional copies for yourself or to donate.

The survey will be open for you to input your information through January (in case your address changes or what now, you can go back and change things), however it's best to get it filled out early so you don't forget.

Pre-Order Store through BackerKit

I've also set up a pre-order store through BackerKit, which allows for "late pledges". The Kickstarter was to ensure enough funds were raised to make the production run viable. The late pledges collected will simply help to sell off the additional units I am ordering, and it will help grow the business.

The "spotlight" link on the Kickstarter page  is now set to direct people to the pre-order page, in case people come across the Kickstarter campaign and want to order a game.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance with getting the word out about the Pre-order page! Sharing the following link is the easiest way to do that.

https://top-tale-og-vol1.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Something to note about the pre-order page, is that copies of the game will still ship free to US customers, however only backers of the Kickstarter campaign have access to additional copies for only $14.

Final Artwork Almost Done!

There were some color formatting changes, slight tweaks to the box dimensions for the magnetic flip box upgrade, and a long list of other changes. All of that has been in process since the campaign ended just two weeks ago. All of that work is nearly done, and will be sent to the manufacturer to produce a physical proof copy! The copy will be shipped by air, to me, to give final approval for production. I'm optimistic that I'll receive the proof copy before Christmas (Merry Christmas to me!).

Here's a look at the final 140 topic cards that have been selected for The O.G. Volume 1 (the four fill-in-the-blank cards were easy to select):

As always, thank you all for your support! I welcome any comments or questions, and look forward to getting games in your hands next Spring!

Cheers,

Peter

WE DID IT!!! Now time to make Top Tale a reality!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Nov 21, 2020 at 08:44:18 AM

Thank You All!!!

After two attempts of launching Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 1 on Kickstarter, we've funded! That's a great feeling! Not only because 148 of you took time out of your day and money out of your pocket, to help get the campaign funded, but it's the culmination of three years of work! Thank you all for making that three years of time and effort totally worth it!

Where We Landed on Goals

Where we landed on the social stretch goals is that the Facebook page followers met the target and unlocked three more cards, bringing the total cards unlocked by social stretch goals up to twelve

We came very close to unlocking a few other social stretch goals, and we did fairly well with overall funding ($6,513). The card count, as it stands with unlocked stretch goals, comes out to 137 cards. I'll let you in on a little secret... card counts are quoted in increments of 18 cards, since that's how many cards can be printed on a given sheet of card stock. So the game will cost the same whether it's 137 cards or 144 cards. This also saves on wasted paper. Being as such, I'm going to go ahead and set the card count at 140 topic cards, and add in four fill-in-the-blank cards, to make a total of 144 cards!

Also, we didn't quite make it to the box upgrade stretch goals, butafter crunching the numbers, I've decided to go ahead and commit  to the box with magnetic flap and UV treated logos, to make the box stand out on your shelf and on retail shelves!

What to Expect Next...

Kickstarter is now collecting your pledges, so you should see both an e-mail from Kickstarter and a charge on your designated payment source. Kickstarter takes up to two weeks to collect all of the pledges and only then is the money sent to me to proceed with fulfillment. I'm not waiting for that to get the ball rolling with the manufacturer, and I'm already working on final quotes and artwork.

Here's a tentative timeline for the next steps:

As the timeline indicates, I'm aiming to have the BackerKit pledge manager survey set up by the end of  November. The pledge manager will allow you to enter your shipping address, add copies of the game, add donated copies, and also designate where the donated copies will go. I've not yet nailed down the date when I'll need the BackerKit survey to close, but it will likely be open for several weeks.

Please let me know if you have any questions about all this.

I will be updating you all at key milestones, but at a minimum I will send one update per month, so you will know how the timeline is panning out. There is a lot of work to come, both in fulfilling the rewards for this campaign, and preparing for another Top Tale campaign late in 2021 (subscribe on my website for more on that), however my priority will be to fulfill your rewards!

THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

LESS THAN 24 HOURS!!!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Nov 20, 2020 at 09:35:56 AM

The Campaign is Almost Over!

There's less than 24 hours left in the Kickstarter campaign for Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 1! In the last attempt on Kickstarter, funding was at $2,020 short of the funding goal at this point in the campaign, and this time, we're well on our way to getting a funding stretch goal unlocked!

I'll be scrambling all day, and probably into the evening, to drum up some last-minute campaign support. Anything that you all can do to help spread the word is greatly appreciated! I've seen so much support from friends, family, and complete strangers, which is very humbling. Thank you all!!!

Top Tale at Sparge

Last night, my wife Kirren and I went to Sparge Brewery to have folks play Top Tale. In return for them giving the game a chance, I bought each player a drink. This is the sixth-ish time I've done this, between Sparge Brewery and the Old Colorado Brewery. In all those brewery events, I'm certain well over 100 unique individuals got a chance to play Top Tale. They came from all backgrounds and ages, and the majority of them asked where they could buy the game. Many were not comfortable using Kickstarter, or they didn't want to wait, so instead they offered to buy one of the prototypes.

Despite luring people in with a free beer, players honestly enjoyed themselves while playing, and I'm sure you will too (or I'll refund your purchase). Here's Kirren and I on our way to the event:

Stretch Goals

You guys have really stepped up over the last couple of days, and although we haven't quite unlocked more cards, some of the social stretch goals are well within reach. I just need one more Facebook follower, seven more tweets, and a handful of Instagram and Twitter followers to unlock TWELVE MORE CARDS! Here's where we're at:

Let's Finish Strong!

The $7,000 funding mark is within reach. As of now, we're just $543 away from hitting it and unlocking some more content for the game! As some extra incentive, I'm going to combine the $7k and $8k stretch goals, so if we hit $7k, we add four more topic cards AND four fill-in-the-blank cards! Spreading the word while unlocking social stretch goals can help us get there, so what are you waiting for...?

Go Go Go!!!!
