FAQ: Top Tale - Tell Epic Tales To Win the Top Tale

What is the appropriate age minimum for Top Tale?

The box in much of the videos shows “14+”, which was based on an early assessment that dropping the age lower would require costly testing. The current plan is to list the game as 10+, as the game is family friendly, and I’ve played it with kids as young as four with no concerns about inappropriate language or not having kids engaged. The game is best played with kids, when there are also adults playing. They seem to enjoy hearing the adults’ stories and having their own turn to tell their own stories.

There are differences in how the player count is listed. What gives?

The player count was originally recommended as 4-10 players, since you need at least three people to be able to vote, and the best player counts seem to be between 4-10. I’ve since play-tested with only two players, and although you cannot vote with only two players, the play testers still enjoyed reading through the topics and sharing tales. With three people, you can still play with voting, although you may get three-way ties. Either way, to appeal to the broadest audience, the official player count will be 2-10 players going forward. I wouldn’t do this unless I didn’t have people that have played at each player count successfully.

How many Top Tale volumes are planned, if I were to go all in?

So far I have enough topics in development for at least four volumes of “The O.G.” series. I also have in the works a Not Safe For Work (NSFW) edition, which is meant for adults only. Then I plan to release a series that is designed for children, where topics are all ones that children can relate to. Additionally, I plan to have a Top Tale: Tall Tale series, where you are encouraged to tell an embellished tale, or even make one up. I also have plans to create booster packs of topics that relate to specific industries, such as health care, teaching, first responders, IT, etc. Which can be used for industry-specific team building and corporate icebreakers. All would be sent to The Top Tale For-ev-er backers (or their children), as long as the Top Tale series lives.

What’s the point of the Top Tale Mobile App?

The Top Tale Mobile App can be used when the analog version of the game isn’t handy. Eventually the mobile app is planned to have features that enable play when players are remote. Think of a video conference where players share tales from across the globe, or turn-based where players record the tales to be listened/viewed by other players when they have time, and voting is all tracked in the app. The possibilities with the mobile app are vast!

How will content be made available in the Top Tale Mobile App?

When you buy an analog version of the game, there will be a key to unlock the same content you bought in the mobile app. This will require you to have a profile with the mobile app, which will permanently have the content you unlock. You will also be able to purchase new card content through the mobile app, without needing to buy the analog game. Unlocked content will not be transferable, and each key should be considered void once used.

When will the mobile app become available on iOS?

I have the files, I’ve been struggling to get the app published (thanks Apple!), but I plan to do it in the first half of the campaign, so Apple users can try the mobile app before they decide if they want to back the campaign. When it’s published, I will add it to the campaign story, and announce the app in an update.

When will “Top Tale: The O.G. Volume 1” become available for purchase, after the Kickstarter?

The plan is to make the game available through retailers that pre-order with the Kickstarter campaign, so those retailers will be able to offer the game around the time that other backers receive their games. Beyond that, I plan to have Top Tale sold through online retailers 2-3 months after the Kickstarter campaign has completed fulfillment. So the safe estimate is Summer 2021.

Is there a retailer way to pre-order through Kickstarter?

Retailers and distributors are encouraged to pledge at the $2 level, in which we will reach out to you to confirm your status as a retailer distributor, and offer you wholesale pricing. Minimum order quantity is five units, with one free demo copy. Special pricing kicks in at 20 units, which is the size of a standard carton from the manufacturer. There are 20 games that will come in a carton (subject to change, based on stretch goals), but the price will be attractive enough to make it worth the investment. US retailers will get free shipping on their order.

How does the money-back guarantee work?

Simple. If you are not happy with the game within a year of purchase, you can return the game, and be issued a refund for the amount you paid. You will be reimbursed for the original shipping you paid, but not for shipping the product back for a refund.

Is Yub Nub Games affiliated with any other company?

No way! Yub Nub Games is truly an independent publishing company. Specifically, the company, the Kickstarter campaign, and the game are all home grown and self-funded. With your generous backing, I hope to kick off a series of games, published solely by Yub Nub Games.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
